Choosing

Sliding, swing or shutter?

The honest comparison — including where each one is weakest.

Sliding

The gate runs along a track beside the wall, pulled by a motor and a toothed rack. The usual choice for homes.

Space needed
Clear run alongside the wall
Typical cost
Lowest
Weak point
Track needs to stay clean and level
Maintenance
Track cleaning, roller checks

Swing (arm)

A motor arm on each leaf pushes it open on its hinges. Needs room inside for the leaves to swing.

Space needed
Space for leaves to swing in
Typical cost
Middle
Weak point
Wind load on large leaves
Maintenance
Hinge and arm lubrication

Swing (roller)

A motor with a drive wheel sits at the outer end of each leaf and rolls it open along the ground. Works even where the pillars are too small for arms.

Space needed
Space for leaves to swing in, over a smooth floor
Typical cost
Quoted after survey
Weak point
Needs a smooth, firm floor; gravel, steps or a steep slope stop the wheel
Maintenance
Wheel and floor path kept clean, hinge lubrication

Shutter

A motor fixed above the opening rolls the shutter up onto its drum, with a chain to open it by hand in a power cut.

Space needed
Room above the opening for the roll
Typical cost
Quoted after survey
Weak point
A bent slat or jammed guide channel stops it
Maintenance
Guide channel cleaning, motor and chain checks
Sizing and cost

Sized to your gate, and roughly what it costs

The motor is chosen from your gate's weight, rated above it rather than just equal to it. Prices are indicative; your quote is fixed in writing after the free site visit.

  1. Up to 600 kg
    Most home gates

Typical sliding gates on houses. The starting price is for this class.

  2. 600 to 1,000 kg
    Large or heavy steel gates

Long or solid MS gates on wide driveways. A bigger motor and controller.

  3. 1,000 to 2,000 kg
    Compounds and commercial

Apartment compounds, shops and godowns, often opened many times a day.

  4. Over 2,000 kg
    Industrial

Heavy-duty and three-phase motors. Quoted after a survey.

Safety

Safety built in, not sold as an extra

Every gate we automate gets all four. They are the first things to check on a cheaper quote.

  1. Photocell sensors

An invisible beam across the opening. If anything breaks it, the gate stops and reverses.

  2. Soft start and soft stop

The controller eases the motor in and out, so the gate does not slam into its stops.

  3. Limit switches

Set and calibrated on site, so the gate stops at the same point every time.

  4. Manual release key

Open the gate by hand in a power cut. A small battery backup can keep the motor running too.

Who it's for

Who we install automatic gates for

  • Homes

Arriving in the rain and getting out to push a gate is the reason most people call us. Remote, keypad or phone — whichever suits the household.

  • Shops with shutters

Roller shutter automation for shopfronts, with manual override so a power cut never locks you out of your own premises.

  • Gated compounds

Multiple remotes, intercom integration and controlled entry for shared driveways and apartment compounds.

  • Godowns & factories

Heavy sliding gates opened many times a day, with a heavy-duty motor sized to the gate and three-phase where the site needs it.

Questions

Gate automation questions

Can you automate my existing gate?

Usually yes. What matters is the gate's weight, the condition of the track or hinges, and whether the structure is straight. We check all three on the survey — occasionally the honest answer is that the gate needs work before a motor is worth fitting.

What happens during a power cut?

Every installation includes a manual release key so you can open the gate by hand. We can also add a small battery backup so the motor keeps working through a cut, which is worth it if your gate is heavy.

Is it safe around children and pets?

We fit photocell sensors that stop and reverse the gate if anything breaks the beam. This is standard on our installations, not an upgrade — and it's the first thing to check on any cheaper quote.

Can I open it from my phone?

Yes, with a Wi-Fi or GSM module. Useful if you want to let someone in while you're out, or if you keep losing remotes.

How long does installation take?

Most domestic gates are done in a single day. Underground motors take longer because of the civil work for the pit.

What does it cost?

Sliding gate automation starts from ₹60,000 installed. Weight, travel length and control options move it from there — a heavier gate needs a bigger motor, and that's the main driver. Swing and shutter automation are quoted after the survey.
