What could solar save you?
Enter your electricity bill, or tap an amount below. We'll show the system size that fits and roughly what it saves.
Your indicative system
Your bill works out to about —.
PM Surya Ghar subsidy for this size: — (homes only)
What's left is mostly KSEB's fixed charge and meter rent, which apply even with solar.
How we worked this out
- Your bill is worked back to units with KSEB's domestic tariff for 2025-27, single phase: slab rates, the fixed charge for your slab, 10% electricity duty and ₹6 meter rent.
- A 2-month bill is treated as two months, the way KSEB bills it.
- The plant is sized to cover at least 90% of your use, at 120 units per kW a month, with about 100 sq ft of shade-free roof per kW.
- With solar, KSEB still charges the fixed charge for your total use (KSERC order, 22 September 2025), the meter rent, and any units still drawn from the grid.
- Fuel surcharge, net meter rent and credit for exported units are left out, so some homes pay less than shown.
- Estimates only. Your written quote comes after a free site survey and a look at twelve months of bills.
PM Surya Ghar subsidy and what you finally pay
The central government pays part of the cost of a rooftop plant on a home. This is what it takes off our packages.

- 3 kW and above

- You pay the full price first. The subsidy is paid into your Aadhaar-linked bank account after the plant is running and KSEB has fitted the net meter, usually within one to two months.
- It covers homes only, with the electricity connection in your name, for on-grid plants with made-in-India (DCR) panels.
- We apply for it on the national PM Surya Ghar portal for you.
- The scheme is approved until 31 March 2027. Your written quote confirms the amount that applies on the day.
How the saving is worked out
Your bill, back to units
We run your bill backwards through KSEB's domestic tariff for 2025-27, with its slab rates, fixed charge, 10% duty and meter rent, to find the units you use.
A plant sized to your use
At about 120 units per kW a month, we pick the smallest standard size that covers at least 90% of those units.
What KSEB still charges
The fixed charge for your total use, the meter rent and any units you still draw. That is your bill with solar; the rest is the saving.
The subsidy for that size
PM Surya Ghar pays homes up to ₹78,000, credited to your bank account after the plant is commissioned and the net meter is fitted.
Solar savings questions
How much will solar save on my KSEB bill?
Enter your bill above. As a guide, a home paying about ₹3,000 a month (around 330 units) suits a 3 kW plant and saves about ₹2,750 a month, because solar replaces the most expensive units first. KSEB still charges the fixed charge and meter rent.
Will my KSEB bill become zero with solar?
Rarely. KSEB still charges the fixed charge for your total use and the meter rent, and you pay for any units you still draw from the grid. With a plant sized to your use, most homes are left with a few hundred rupees a month or less.
What is the PM Surya Ghar subsidy for a 3 kW system?
₹78,000 for a home, which is also the most any home can get. It is ₹30,000 a kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third. Shops, offices and institutions are not covered.
What size solar system do I need?
In Kerala 1 kW makes about 120 units a month on average. Divide your monthly units by that and round up to a standard size; the calculator does this from your bill and sizes the plant to cover at least 90% of your use.
How much roof space does a solar system need?
About 100 sq ft of shade-free roof per kW, so roughly 300 sq ft for 3 kW. Shade from trees, water tanks or a neighbouring building cuts generation, which is why we check the roof before quoting.
Want the exact figure for your roof?
Send us twelve months of bills and we will size the plant, check the roof and put the price, the subsidy and the saving in writing. Free, with no obligation.
